links post 1/?
I used to have an email newsletter called DMail. I stopped writing it a few years ago and deleted all (most?) traces from the world wide webternet. I will eventually go into detail re: why I quit, because it's a lot more nuanced and interesting than "I just didn't want to do it anymore" —— but today is not that day.
Today is me simply putting some links in a post and then posting it because I want to get back in the habit of sharing things1 I think are interesting even if my curation is a bit rough and ready. That said, some degree of care has been taken to spotlight independent media2 and non-paywalled articles.
Below find some links you can click:
🔗 Blogroll.org
"A humanly curated list of 709 fine personal & independent blogs and sites that are updated regularly."
🔗 Eject Disk
"A manifesto for everyone stuck in the system that keeps crashing you."
🔗 Lieu de mémoire
"A lieu de mémoire is a physical place or object which acts as container of memory."
🔗 368 Chickens
This was going around about a month ago but if it didn't reach you, play it. It's pretty easy to figure out.
🔗 The am dash
"The am dash is a clever, necessary act of punctuation reclamation —— both a typographic intervention and a philosophical middle finger. It names something that’s been quietly bothering everyone: that [ChatGPT writing] can look like thinking without being thought." — ChatGPT
🔗 I Almost Quit My Career for My Kids. Then I Met Joan Darling.
A delightful video op-ed3 filmmaker Shaina Feinberg made for the NYT.
Footnotes:
1 It also encourages me to close tabs.
2 Legitimate independent and/or non-legacy media, not like maganewsusanumber1 [dot] tinfoil [dot] hat or whatever.
3I'm not sure how many pieces the NYT lets you read for free if you're not a subscriber (because I'm a subscriber), but this is worth using one of your freebies on if you have one to spare.
